So here are Trendwatching’s final four hot consumer trends for 2013 and my thoughts on how they may affect your homeschooling journey. The ones we have already examined are:

7. Data My-ning: Says Trendwatching, “To date, the ‘big data’ discussion has focused on the value of customer data to businesses. In 2013 expect savvy shoppers to start reversing the flow, as consumers seek to own and make the most of their lifestyle data, and turn to brands that use this data to proactively offer customers help and advice on how to improve their behavior and/ or save money.” I think there is an opening here for homeschoolers to influence the kinds of goods and services offered to us -to demand that educational products be more value added. This will not only benefit our kids but non-homeschooling families as well. More choice, more options, better education! We will use our buying choices and our points to get more!
8. Again Made Here: Many homeschoolers already shop locally but now you are going to see many more of your friends and neighbors shopping locally too!
9. Full Frontal: Brands have to be transparent and accountable. Homeschoolers have time – time to write letters, to inquire into things and to share that information with others. This is a great year to teach your children how to think critically, how to hold organizations accountable and how to make a difference.
10. Demanding Brands: Just as you will have expectations of businesses and organizations, they will start to demand that you get involved in projects too! Be prepared to chip in, to donate time and ideas to help make the world a better place!
