Update June 22, 2013

We will be open Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM this week. However, all grade 9 exams will be cancelled as per the information from Alberta Education.


Alberta has experienced a Level 4 emergency.  Alberta Education’s first priority is ensuring the safety of students.  During this period of uncertainty, it is important to remember that your local school/school authority remains the most important source of information, as it will have precise knowledge of the local situation—including information about what schools are open or closed and the condition of transportation routes.

Officials from the Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Separate School District, and Alberta Education met on Saturday, June 22, 2013, and the two school districts made important, coordinated decisions.

The following approach applies to students in the Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Catholic School District, southern Alberta Francophone Regional authorities and those who attend charter and private schools within the city of Calgary:

  • Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests have been cancelled for the remainder of the school year (Monday, June 24 through Thursday, June 27).
  • All students registered to write diploma exams for the week of Monday, June 24 through Thursday, June 27 will receive an exemption from the exam without filling out the application form (it will be done for students by the schools).  In other words, students do not need to do  anything to receive this exemption.  This means that each student’s school-awarded mark will be substituted for the diploma exam mark.  However, if a student would like to write a particular diploma exam, school authorities will make every effort to facilitate this choice.  Students who choose to write diploma exams must check their school authority’s website to determine whether they are writing at their school or at an alternate site.

This approach also applies to school authorities (for example, Canadian Rockies, Foothills, etc.) outside of Calgary in which flooding or the consequences of flooding have affected the operation of schools.  These authorities will be responsible for identifying the schools at which this approach will apply.
