Today we had Dr. Allen Donsky come out and chat with our homeschooling teens about mental health issues and mindfulness. They munched on pizza and participated in a variety of activities over the lunch break.
Thank you for coming out!
Dr. Allan Donsky
MD, FRCPC Psychiatry, FRCPC Paediatrics – Consultant
Allan was born in Zimbabwe, attended Medical School in Cape Town and has lived in Canada since 1987. He carries the designations of pediatrician and child and adolescent psychiatrist. In his work with youth, families and schools for the last three decades, his focus has shifted to a deeper exploration of what it means to be human, how to navigate this experience and how to understand what goes on in the brain, mind, heart and spirit of each of us. A deeper realization is that many youth are not given the tools to do so and thus find themselves ill at ease in a complicated inner and outer world. Allan’s vision is to have a “human curriculum” that can be learnt by every child so that he/she has the inner tools to navigate the inner and outer world with competence and confidence. Allan combines his understanding of human development, clinical experience in the therapy room, extensive work in schools, mindfulness practice, an ongoing search for beauty and joy in the lived moment and teaching experience to bring a renewed quest for clarity in what matters most; that is, how can we be while we are doing our doing? Dr. Donsky is an associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Calgary and adjunct professor in the Department of Child and Youth Studies at Mount Royal University.
